Ron started piano lessons at the age of 7 from an excellent classically-oriented piano teacher, Ocy Downs. He continued lessons through college. By middle school, he was ready to explore other styles of music. At South Portland High School, he had opportunities to play keyboard with the jazz band and accompany the chorus. His musical experiences were also broadened as he took on the role of worship leader at his church.  Ron has played in numerous piano recitals, talent shows, and benevolent clubs over the years.

Ron graduated from the University of Maine at Gorham with a Music Education degree, majoring in piano and a minoring in voice and organ. While in college, he soloed on the piano with the Portland Junior Symphony.

While Ron taught general music and band in grades 4-6 in the Scarborough school system, he began to build an after-school class of piano students, which enabled him to convert, exclusively, to private lessons. He realized his gift of teaching was on a one-on-one basis rather than public school’s 25-to-one. His emphasis has been in going to students’ homes in the areas of Cape Elizabeth, South Portland and Scarborough for over 25 years.

Ron and his lovely bride, Colleen, reside together in his childhood home, a house built by his parents in South Portland.
